Retro Town Fair is Back and In Person!

Megan Searing Young

We hope you'll join us for one of our favorite annual events - Retro Town Fair! On Sunday, September 5 of Labor Day Weekend, we invite gardeners, bakers, canners, and crafters to enter their items into the fair. Inspired by Greenbelt's earliest town fairs, this event is our small version of a county fair where ribbons are awarded to the best entries in each category: Flowers and Vegetables, Baked Goods, Canned Goods, Needlework, and Crafts. Download, print, and fill out an entry form here (only one entry per person per category, please). Then drop off your item and form with us on the grounds of 10A and 10B Crescent between 10am-11:30am. Judging commences at 11:30am September 5. Then all entries will be displayed for public viewing from 1pm-4pm. We ask that all entries be picked up no later than 5pm.

After careful consideration, we have decided to do this event in person this year - all activities related to it will take place outside. We have temporarily suspended our Legacy Exhibition of hand-crafted family heirlooms for this reason. We hope to bring it back next year. Masks are strongly encouraged on the Museum grounds and when interacting with staff and volunteers. We want to keep everyone safe! We are closely tracking any changes in recommended COVID-19 precautions and will make updates accordingy. We thank you for your cooperation. Don't have a green thumb or skills with cooking or crafts but still want to be involved? We are always seeking volunteers to help with set up, receiving entries, recording winners, and take down. To volunteer or with any questions, please contact Sheila Maffay-Tuthill at education@greenbeltmuseum.org. This event is free and is sponsored by the City of Greenbelt and the Friends of the Greenbelt Museum.

Community Pledge

The strength of Greenbelt is diverse people living together in a spirit of cooperation. We celebrate all people. By sharing together all are enriched. We strive to be a respectful, welcoming community that is open, accessible, safe and fair.

Preserving and sharing the New Deal history of an experimental planned community built by FDR in suburban Maryland in 1937 and still thriving today.
