DECO the HALLS

Join us at the Museum's historic house at 10-B Crescent immediately after the City’s tree lighting, Friday, December 1 from 7-9pm to see Deco the Halls, an exhibit of art deco and vintage holiday decorations. Take a quick free tour of the house, get a sense of how the holidays were celebrated in the '30s and '40s, and take in how the house sparkles and glows at night. Then peruse the gift shop, freshly stocked with new holiday merchandise. House and gift shop open 7:00pm-9:00pm. FREE! For more information, call 240-542-2064.

Festival of Lights

Shop small, shop local at Greenbelt's Festival of Lights, a juried art and craft fair. We'll be there, too, with tables full of vintage inspired toys, books, Greenbelt ornaments, cards, and much more. The sale takes place Saturday, December 2 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, December 3 from 10am-4pm. Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770. Free admission!

Holiday Twilight Tours

This December, the Greenbelt Museum is offering two special walking tours to celebrate the holidays and to illuminate many seasonal Greenbelt traditions. We'll meet at the Museum's historic house, 10B Crescent Road, at dusk (5pm). Then we'll walk along the pedestrian pathways to see holiday decorations and twinkling lights, all while learning more about what early Greenbelters did to mark the season. The tour will end at the museum house for a peek at Deco the Halls, the Museum's holiday display of vintage decorations and to have a bit of hot cider and gingerbread. Tours are on Sunday, December 10, and Sunday, December 17, beginning in front of 10B Crescent at 5pm. Estimated tour time: 1 hour. Cost is $6 per person, children under 12 are free! Questions? Call Sheila Maffay-Tuthill at 240-542-2064 or email her at education@greenbeltmuseum.org. Tours will be cancelled in case of inclement weather, check the museum website for updates.

Community Pledge

The strength of Greenbelt is diverse people living together in a spirit of cooperation. We celebrate all people. By sharing together all are enriched. We strive to be a respectful, welcoming community that is open, accessible, safe and fair.

Preserving and sharing the New Deal history of an experimental planned community built by FDR in suburban Maryland in 1937 and still thriving today.
