Friends of the Greenbelt Museum

The Greenbelt Museum opened its doors in 1987 as part of Greenbelt’s 50th anniversary celebration. The Friends of the Greenbelt Museum formed a non-profit corporation and restored an original Greenbelt row house that was purchased by the City of Greenbelt to be a museum.

The Friends of the Greenbelt Museum, Inc. (FOGM) support and operate the Greenbelt Museum in partnership with the City of Greenbelt. The City of Greenbelt employs a full-time Curator/Director of Historic Programs and the FOGM supports a half time Education/Volunteer Coordinator.

The Friends of the Greenbelt Museum has consistently held a goal of professional accreditation from the American Association of Museums.  To that end, the museum has undertaken several self-studies such as the Museum Assessment Program (MAP)  in 1996 it completed MAPI, MAP III in 2002 and MAPIV in 2007.
